Gujarat elections 2022: Rajnath, Nadda lead as BJP intensifies Kharge attack
AHMEDABAD: A day ahead of the first phase of polling in Gujarat, senior BJP leaders on Wednesday intensified their attack on Congress over its president Mallikarjun Kharge’s ‘Ravan’ jibe at PM Narendra Modi and said people will give a befitting reply to the opposition party.
At a press conference, defence minister Rajnath Singh said that Modi represents “honour and pride” of the state, while asserting that BJP is poised for a two-third majority in the state polls, breaking all its previous victory margins.
During a roadshow, BJP president J P Nadda said Kharge’s barb and another Congress leader Madhusudan Mistry’s ‘aukat’ remark directed at Modi expose theCongress’ mindset and betrays its frustration as the party stands nowhere while BJP is getting one-sided support across the state.
Nadda alleged that Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have been unable to reconcile themselves to accepting Modi as PM and often used objectionable comments against him. Their party leaders have taken cue from them in targeting Modi, he said.
Addressing a poll rally on Monday, Kharge had said the PM asks people to vote “looking at his face” in all elections. “Are you 100-headed like Ravan?” he had asked.
