CPM cadre dies after TMC attack

SASHAN: Noor Islam Mistri, a 46-year-old CPM cadre who was attacked on Monday by alleged Trinamool activists in Sashan, north 24-Parganas, succumbed to his injuries in a Kolkata hospital on Wednesday morning.The news of Mistri's death sparked tension in the belt.

Noor had returned to Sashan on the very morning of the attack after learning that Left Front chairman Biman Bose had escorted some of them back home.

Later in the evening, he met his neighbours to discuss the fate of the elections, when 20odd bike-borne assailants attacked him with choppers and knives.

Noor was admitted to SSKM and later he was shifted to a private hospital. Sajahan Gharami, a known Trinamool supporter who was arrested on Monday, was remanded in police custody for three days.

The death has again put Sashan under the spotlight. With its history of political violence , there is an apprehension that violence could again escalate over the next couple of days.
