KOLKATA: Election Commission of India in a recent communique to the state government has asked Bharati Ghosh not to leave station till the election ends. The letter has been sent to chief secretary Basudev Banerjee to ensure that the order has been followed with immediate effect.
The letter comes after information received by the Election Commission of India that Bharati Ghosh was present in Coochbehar.
Ghosh who is now Special Superintendent of Police CID and is posted in Bhabani Bhawan has no reason whatsoever to be in Coochbehar. - The district that is going for polls on May 5.
Sources in the state government said that Banerjee has asked some senior police officers to inquire the whole thing. They also claimed that Ghosh was not in Coochbehar. However, election commission has insisted on the fact that Ghosh will not leave station.
Bharati Ghosh, invoked controversy when she was posted as OSD - Left Wing Extremists on the ground that after being removed as SP West Midnapore, state government gave her that posting which will help her to have a control over the three districts West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura. Commission however removed her from her previous posts and she was made SSP-CID.
