The PMK's chief ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramadoss urged people to vote for "literates" and give the party a chance by electing the 24 candidates he introduced to the crowd at a rally at Samayapuram on Wednesday. The party's candidates contesting from constituencies in Trichy, Karur, Pudukottai and Sivaganga districts were assembled at the venue.
"Good governance can be provided only by literates. Tamil Nadu, for the past several decades, has witnessed only actors and people in the film fraternity taking the central role. Only the PMK can give good governance if the party is given a chance," he said.
Speaking extempore as usual, Anbumani asked the people why they should vote for the PMK. "For 50 years, the DMK-AIADMK has not done several things that were promised to the people. We will change all that once we come to power, for which you voters should give us a chance," he said.
"When I was at the Centre, I was able to rule 110 crore people in this country; with seven crore population in the state it should be easier. So kindly vote for the PMK."
Anbumani said at least 60 per cent of the DMK manifesto was completely copied from the PMK. "Liquor prohibition has been voiced by the PMK for a long time. However, other parties have just come out with the agenda for the current elections."
"Our party has always been branded as casteist. The selection of candidates itself shows that it is false," he added.
Signing off, he said, "England is ruled by a queen, but is a democracy; however, in Tamil Nadu, it's the complete opposite."
