Former deputy chief minister and DMK's Kolathur candidate M K Stalin and his wife have assets worth Rs 5.9 crore. Compared to the 2011 election affidavit, the assets have increased by 176%. In 2011, they declared assets worth Rs 2.11 crore.
According to the affidavit filed along with the nomination on Wednesday in Kolathur, the couple owns movable assets worth `1.1 crore, but they don't have any vehicles in their name.
Most of the movable assets are in the form of bank deposits. Stalin's wife has jewellery worth `15.7 lakh.
On immovable assets, Sta lin has agriculture lands in Tiruvallur and Thanjavur districts. The lands are worth `1.86 crore. Stalin's wife owns a non-agricultural land in Tiruvallur district worth `11.04 lakh.
The couple owns a residential building in Sitapathi Nagar, Velachery, worth `2.6 crore. Apart from this Stalin also owns a house in Tiruvallur district worth `19.5 lakh.
Pending cases include a defamation case filed by the AIADMK government and two more in Chennai and Dindigul district courts. He has not been convicted in any case so far.
Ever since he contested the 2011 election from Kolathur, Stalin has been nurturing the constituency. Back then, he was pitted against present Chennai mayor Saidai S Duraisamy, and he managed a margin of 2,734 votes, but has since been in touch with the electorate.
