Seeming to acknowledge the rumblings in his party over the allotment of Cheyyar seat to Congress, DMK treasurer MK Stalin on Tuesday campaigned in Tiruvannamalai district but gave his ally's seat a miss. On Tuesday, he addressed packed meetings and large gatherings in Tiruvannamalai town, Vandavasi, Kalasapakkam, Polur, Chengam and other constituencies in the district. There was a lot of discontent among DMK cadres after Cheyyar was allotted to its ally, Congress, for the third consecutive election.
Last week, DMK cadres burnt an effigy of senior DMK leader E V Velu to express their displeasure in this regard and also threw footwear at Velu when he went to a meeting of party cadres.
Addressing meetings, Stalin said if the DMK came to power it would arrest former AIADMK minister `Agri' S S Krishna moorthy in connection with the suicide of an agriculture de partment engineer. Krishna moorthy was acquitted in February 2015. Stalin promised voters in the region a zoological park and reminded them of his party's efforts to set up a government medical colnd collectorate campus in Tiruvan lege and collectorate campus in Tiruvannamalai.
