IND vs ENG Highlights, 5th Test Match Day 2: India 75/2 in second innings as stumps, lead England by 52 runs

India vs England Live Score, 5th Test Match: Day 2 of the Oval Test saw the series come alive as India fought back brilliantly through their pace duo — Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna — after England threatened to seize control. England were 129/1 in reply to India’s 224, following a blistering 92-run opening stand between Zak Crawley (64) and Ben Duckett (43) in just 13 overs. But once Akash Deep dismissed Duckett, India roared back.

Siraj (4/86) and Krishna (4/62) shared eight wickets between them to bowl England out for 247, limiting their lead to just 23 runs. Harry Brook fought with a quick 53, hitting one remarkable falling sweep for six, but was the last man out as Chris Woakes — injured while fielding on Day 1 — could not bat.

India’s second innings began with intent, led by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who raced to a 44-ball half-century and remained unbeaten on 51 at stumps. He was dropped twice — first by Brook at slip on 20, then by Dawson in the deep on 40 — and made England pay. India reached 75/2 before bad light ended play 15 minutes early, with a 52-run lead. KL Rahul (7) edged to Root, while Sai Sudharsan (11) was lbw to Atkinson, who had earlier taken 5/33 in India’s first innings.

Tempers flared briefly when Joe Root exchanged words with Prasidh Krishna, underlining the tension of the series decider. Earlier, India lost their last four wickets for just 20 runs in the morning.

This gripping Test continues to ebb and flow, promising more drama on Day 3, with England a bowler short and India now holding a slender advantage.

India vs England Live Score: STUMPS ON DAY 2!
Light stops play after another riveting day of Test cricket

The umpires come together, and yes — it’s a discussion about the light. It’s deemed unfit for pace bowling, and when offered the option to continue with spin, Ollie Pope declines. That’s it for the day. Stumps are called.

It wraps up a thrilling day where 15 wickets fell — the most in a single day in this series so far, eclipsing the 14 on Day 4 at Lord’s. India were bowled out early in the morning, adding just 20 runs for their final four wickets. Then came a Bazball blitz — England’s openers raced to a 92-run partnership off just 77 balls, briefly making it look like a different pitch altogether.

But Akash Deep’s breakthrough opened the floodgates, and India clawed their way back. The game remains finely poised heading into Day 3, with momentum swinging back and forth in classic Test match fashion.

While Crawley went on to score a fluent 64, India hit back strongly with a spirited bowling performance after lunch. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj led the charge, both finishing with four-wicket hauls as England were bowled out for 247. Apart from Crawley, the only other significant contribution came from Harry Brook, who made 53.

In the final session, England created opportunities but failed to capitalise, dropping three catches—including a costly one of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remains unbeaten on 51. Despite the missed chances, they did manage to remove KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan before bad light brought an early end to play, about 15 minutes ahead of schedule.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 5th Test Match Day 2: OUT! Sudharsan falls
India lose a review as Gus Atkinson strikes — Sai Sudharsan falls for 11

A good length delivery angling into middle and leg, kept a bit low, and Sai Sudharsan was late getting his bat down. It struck him just below the knee roll on the back leg, and the umpire raised the finger almost instantly. Atkinson didn’t even bother with a full appeal — it looked that plumb.

After a long chat with his partner, Sudharsan opted to review, but it was a futile call. No bat involved, pitching outside off, impact in line, and hitting leg-stump.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 5th Test Match Day 2: FIFTY for Jaiswal!
SIX! Yashasvi Jaiswal (51*) races to his fifty in style — off just 44 balls — with a superb six off Jamie Overton.

Short and aimed at the body, but Jaiswal was ready. He arched back and ramped it effortlessly over the keeper’s head, sending it all the way. A statement shot to bring up his first second-innings fifty of the series.

Another chance goes begging! This time Sai Sudharsan gets a life on 7.

Overton pitches it full and wide outside off—inviting the drive. Sudharsan throws his hands at it and gets a thick outside edge. It flies quickly towards third slip, but Zak Crawley can't hold on, only managing to parry it over his head.

Dawson puts down a sitter — Jaiswal gets a life on 40!

A real let-off for India. Josh Tongue banged it in short on middle, and Yashasvi Jaiswal instinctively took it on. He was a touch late, and the ball flew flat toward Dawson at long leg. It should’ve been a straightforward catch, but Dawson appeared to lose sight of it in the crowd. The ball struck his palms, ricocheted onto his neck, and went down — much to his disbelief.

That one went straight down his throat. A massive missed opportunity.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 5th Test Match Day 2: OUT! Rahul falls
Big Wicket! Josh Tongue provides England a crucial breakthrough, removing KL Rahul for 7.

Edged and gone! A soft dismissal for Rahul.

It was a good-length delivery, just outside off, angled in and then nipping away off the seam. Rahul, rooted to the crease, was drawn into a tentative poke. The ball took the thick outside edge and flew low to Joe Root at first slip, who made no mistake.

Rahul will be disappointed with that shot — he could’ve left it alone but didn’t. A lapse in concentration, and he pays the price. Tongue had been working him over with that away-seamer and finally reaped the reward.

DROPPED! Yashasvi Jaiswal (24* off 18) collects his sixth boundary — but this one comes with a big slice of luck. Harry Brook puts down a regulation chance at second slip, and the ball races to the rope off Gus Atkinson.

It was full and wide outside off, Jaiswal went hard at the drive and got a thick edge. Brook moved to his left and went for the reverse cup overhead, but it burst through his hands and over the bar. He’ll be gutted to miss what should’ve been a straightforward catch.

India now move into the lead, and Jaiswal continues to live dangerously — dealing almost exclusively in boundaries.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 5th Test Match Day 2: It's all over!
Mohammed Siraj is now the leading wicket-taker of the series with 18 wickets, after a fiery spell helped India claw their way back.

At 92 without loss, England looked in complete control as Duckett and Crawley punished the bowlers. India appeared flat, tensions rose, and words were exchanged. But Akash Deep broke the opening stand, removing Duckett and giving him a fiery send-off. That moment reignited India’s bowling unit.

India struck four times for just 20 runs. Siraj led the charge with an exceptional 8-over spell, full of nip-backers, yorkers, and aggression. Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna proved his mettle. He hit the deck hard, found movement, and finally got the rewards he deserved, troubling England's middle order.

Harry Brook stood firm with a crucial fifty that edged England past India’s total before the innings folded at 247.

India vs England Live Score: OUT! Siraj removes Brook
Mohammed Siraj picks up his fourth wicket, dismissing Harry Brook for 53 to wrap up the England innings.

Bowled! An inside edge crashes into the stumps as Brook departs. It was a short-of-length ball angled in from outside off, keeping a touch low—at least that’s how Brook read it. He backed away to access the off-side but was cramped for room. The ball caught the toe-end of his bat and cannoned into the base of off stump.

Fourth for Prasidh Krishna! Gus Atkinson falls for 11

Caught by Akash Deep! A change of length does the trick for Prasidh Krishna. After a few full deliveries, he bangs one in short — not a steep bouncer, but enough to rush Atkinson. The England pacer goes for the pull but mistimes it badly, lobbing it straight to mid-on where Akash Deep takes a simple catch.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 5th Test Match Day 2: TEA BREAK!
India storm back with six-wicket blitz after lunch

From 108/1 in just 16 overs at lunch to 215/7 by Tea — India’s pacers turned the tide dramatically with a spirited fightback.

After being blown away by England’s Bazball aggression in the morning session, India regrouped and struck back hard, claiming 6 wickets for just 87 runs in the second session — and almost entirely through the efforts of their three seamers.

The turnaround began with tighter lines and fuller lengths. Zak Crawley, who had looked imperious, fell attempting an ill-judged pull. Tensions flared soon after when Prasidh Krishna and Joe Root exchanged words, injecting fresh energy into the contest.

It was Mohammed Siraj who then truly turned the screws. He bowled an outstanding eight-over spell, full of fire and precision. He first trapped Ollie Pope LBW with a classic nip-backer before repeating the act against Joe Root, one of the biggest wickets of the day. Siraj followed that up with a brutal yorker to clean up debutant Jacob Bethell — a lion-hearted spell that ripped through England’s middle order.

Prasidh Krishna returned to dismiss Jamie Smith, who nicked off trying to cut a rising delivery, and then Jamie Overton, LBW just before Tea.

India, once on the ropes, are now right back in the contest.

Overton was given out on-field and sent it upstairs, hoping the ball might be sliding down leg. But no respite – three reds on ball-tracking confirmed it was crashing into leg stump. Plumb!

A sharp length delivery that jagged back in and struck Overton on the knee-roll. Beaten on the inside edge and out goes another.

India have absolutely dominated the session – four wickets and just 74 runs conceded.

There was a loud, confident appeal, but the umpire appeared uncertain — perhaps unsure about the height or angle. Siraj, though, was convinced and urged the review. Hawkeye confirmed his instinct: three reds!

A huge moment for India, who have now struck twice in quick succession after lunch. The celebrations were loud and animated as the decision flashed on the big screen.

Tensions flare as India try to unsettle Joe Root post-Crawley dismissal

There's some drama unfolding at The Oval! The Indian players seem keen to rattle the new man in, Joe Root, right after Zak Crawley’s dismissal. A few of them swooped in for a word or two, clearly trying to get under Root's skin. The umpires had to step in to cool things down as tempers simmered.

Root, usually calm and composed, looked unusually animated and was seen having a pointed conversation with the on-field officials — possibly offering his side of the story.

Prasidh Krishna, who took the wicket of Crawley, appeared to have said something that struck a nerve with Root, who rarely reacts emotionally on the field. As Root took strike again, Prasidh was seen exchanging a few words with the umpire before starting his next over.

Both sides are clearly on edge, and the added spice has only made this already feisty series even more gripping.

India vs England Live Score: LUNCH BREAK!
What a gripping morning session at The Oval!

England needed just 34 balls to wrap up India’s innings, and then launched a counterattack with the bat that was pure Bazball. They blazed their way to 50 inside just seven overs, taking full advantage of a placid surface and reduced lateral movement, aided by the heavy roller.

Ben Duckett (43 off 38) went into overdrive — driving, flicking, scooping, and reverse-scooping — unsettling the Indian bowlers and throwing their lines and lengths into disarray. His fearless strokeplay set the tone for England’s aggressive charge.

Zak Crawley (52* off 43) joined the party in style, bringing up his 19th Test half-century with a flurry of crisp boundaries. He and Ollie Pope (12*) ensured the momentum didn’t drop, racing England past 100 in under 15 overs.

India managed just one breakthrough — Duckett caught behind off Akash Deep — but they’ll need much more after lunch to claw their way back into the game.

India vs England Live Score, 5th Test Match Day 2: India clawed their way back into the fifth and final Test at The Oval as pacers Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj claimed four wickets apiece to bowl England out for 247, just 23 runs ahead of India’s first-innings total of 224. England were cruising at 129/1 at one stage after a blistering 92-run opening stand between Zak Crawley (64) and Ben Duckett (43), but collapsed dramatically after lunch.

Prasidh, recalled for this match, returned 4/62, while Siraj ended with 4/86, including the final wicket of Harry Brook, who made a fighting 53 before being bowled. Chris Woakes, injured while fielding, did not bat.

India’s second innings was interrupted by bad light at 75/2, giving them a 52-run lead at stumps on Day 2. Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge with a stroke-filled 51* off 49 balls, despite being dropped twice — on 20 by Brook at slip and on 40 by Dawson in the deep.

England were a bowler short with Woakes injured, and failed to capitalise on three catching chances. KL Rahul (7) and Sai Sudharsan (11) were the wickets to fall, while Jamie Overton and Gus Atkinson — who earlier took 5/33 in India’s first innings — were among the wicket-takers.

Earlier in the day, India’s lower order folded quickly, adding just 20 more runs for the last four wickets. A heated moment between Joe Root and Krishna also stood out during England’s innings, as tempers flared.

The Test — and the series — remain finely balanced heading into Day 3.
