AIADMK councillor held for trying to distribute money to voters

The police have arrested an AIADMK councillor of the Thirumalayampalayam town panchayat in election-bound Tamil Nadu for allegedly trying to distribute money to voters. They seized Rs 7.87 lakh from him.

COIMBATORE: Police have arrested an AIADMK councillor in Thirumalayampalayam town panchayat in Coimbatore district of election-bound Tamil Nadu for allegedly trying to distribute money to voters. They seized Rs 7.87 lakh from him.
The arrested councillor has been identified as P Sundaram alias Krishnamoorthy, 53, of Kumittipathy village. He is the councillor of the 14th wards in Thirumalayampalayam town panchayat.
Around 10pm on Thursday, the Coimbatore rural police stopped him at Navakkarai and checked his two-wheeler.
They found cash to the tune of Rs 7.87 lakh in the two-wheeler tank cover.
He confessed to police that the money was meant to be distributed to voters.
The K G Chavadi police registered a case against Krishnamoorthy under sections 171 (e) (punishment for bribery) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.
He will be produced in the VI judicial magistrate court here.
