CHENNAI: #TNElectionResults was the top-trending hashtag on Twitter at 9.32am with more than 18,200 tweets. A lot of Chennai's twitterati are blaming Vijayakanth for splitting the vote in favour of #AIADMK.
Many users believe that despite the major dissatisfaction over relief disbursal during Chennai floods, the only reason the AIADMK was in the lead is because of the complete lack of choices.

Youngsters on Twitter seemed to have no problem with lambasting M Karunanidhi for not letting M K Stalin or Kanimozhi take over the reins. Contempt for the DMK leader's pursuit of power at the age of 91 was mingled with memes, puns and wordplay suggesting that if AIADMK came to power in TN, it was because people voted against Vijayakanth and Granddad, not because they voted for Amma.
Certain candidates like DMK's former Chennai Mayor Ma Subramanian and Congress candidate from Mylapore Karate Thiagarajan, however, continued to have vocal supporters on Twitter who made it clear that they were voting for the candidate and not the party.
Many tweets had both #SayNoToADMK and #SayNoToDMK hashtags. Other hashtags trending on Twitter included #Verdict16 and #TNresults, both of which had more than 2,000 tweets.
