CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary and chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday extended her heartfelt thanks to the people of Tamil Nadu for giving a resounding victory to her party for the second consecutive term, after her mentor M G Ramachandran won two terms in 1984.
“I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to the people of Tamil Nadu for giving a massive win to AIADMK, and electing me chief minister again.
This victory belongs to you,” she said in a press statement. Jayalalithaa said that she did not have words in the dictionary to express her overwhelming feelings and gratitude to the people.
The AIADMK leader said that election had established a true democracy, defeating the “false campaign propagated by the DMK.”
“It has put an end to family rule permanently. It has trounced those who sought votes in family. It is an election which routed a party that believed in opinion polls and not people of Tamil Nadu,” she said.
Thanking the electorate for reposing faith on her government, Jayalalithaa vowed to deliver all her electoral promises found mention in the manifesto, and would strive hard “day and night” to make Tamil Nadu the numero uno in the country. She thanked cadres, functionaries and alliance partners for the victory.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley, Governor K Rosaiah, and Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik telephoned her and greeted her.
