COIMBATORE:
AIADMK supremo and chief minister
Jayalalithaa alleged on Sunday at a huge campaign rally that the DMK-Congress tie-up for the May 16 Tamil Nadu assembly polls is a "corrupt alliance". She declared that no election promise was fulfilled by DMK unless it "benefitted" party president M Karunanidhi and his family.
She cited the DMK's distribution of colour-televisions worth Rs 2,000 each to people, but later charging Rs 3,000 for cable connections run by its family members.
She claimed that it thus earned Rs 25,000 crore in five years.
She demandeded to know why Karunanidhi had joined hands with a party which he had once blamed was "taking revenge" on him with the 2G spectrum scam.
The unfulfilled promises made by the DMK in 2006 included providing solar energy to remote villages, elections for cooperative societies, setting up a food processing export centre and a memorial for late actor Shivaji Ganesan, she added.
She emphasised that though the DMK had been accusing her party of not fulfilling election promises made in 2011, her government had made good on almost all of them like infrastructure and education.
