Residents of Radhakrishnan Nagar, from where Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa will contest in the upcoming assem bly election had a surprise visitor on Friday afternoon. DMK treasurer M K Stalin went door-to-door at JJ Nagar in Korukkupet and CG colony near Kasimedu signal, distributing party fliers.
Stalin's effort to woo voters in Jayalalithaa's bastion comes just a day before she launches her poll campaign with a rally campaign with a rally at Island Grounds.
Last year, the CM won the RK Nagar bypoll by a record margin after she was acquitted by the Karnataka high court in the disproportionate assets case.
Stalin's surprise visit left residents of both areas surprised and puzzled. Anjala, 47, a fruit vendor in CG Colony , said, “No one knew he was coming. This is the first time I'm seeing him here. I think it is because Amma had a big win from here that Stalin is also showing interest in this area.“
At JJ Nagar, many were happy to see Stalin.
However, for some like Santhi, 52, who faces hardship after her husband passed away two years ago, visits by political leaders are of little consequence. “I hope someone will hear my plea and help us out,“ she said.
