n a stunner for many, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went ahead and congratulated incumbent Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on her "assumed victory", hours ahead of the Election Commission's expected announcement of results.
CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa as her party was leading in a majority of seats in the state.
Within six minutes, the PM's tweet saw 577 retweets and 955 favourites on his official Twitter handle @narendramodi. He also sent his best wishes to her counterpart in West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on her twitter handle @MamataOfficial.
In his tweet to the AIADMK's handle @AIADMKOfficial, the PM said, "Had a telephone conversation with Jayalalithaa ji and congratulated her on her victory.
Also conveyed my best wishes to her."
@AIADMKOfficial acknowledged the PM's tweet within 8 minutes, "PM @narendramodi Called Puratchi Thalaivi Amma and congratulated her on her Victory and conveyed his best wishes to her."
