The DMDK-PWF alliance set its campaign tone by taking on the alleged misgovernance of the AIADMK and DMK governments over the past five decades. They vowed to usher in good governance for the welfare of the state. Dubbing it a mega alliance, the leaders of the front said they would win over the electorate, who have been longing for a change. “It is an alliance floated by good leaders. We have joined hands to provide good governance,“ Vijayakanth said.
The leaders joined the dais for the first time at a public rally in Mamandur near Chennai, after DMDK and PWF entered a seat sharing arrangement for the May 2016 polls. The much-anticipated first list of candidates was not released at the rally, in the wake of the TMC joining the front on Saturday .
After months of speculating over his leaning, TMC leader G K Vasan joined Captain Vijayakanth front, fetching 26 seats. While the DMDK will contest in 104 constituencies, MDMK in 29, VCK and Left parties share 25 each.
Vijayakanth chose the occasion to take a dig at DMK heir-apparent Stalin for allegedly setting off dissidence in his party . “Karunanidhi is Jayalalithaa's enemy and vice versa. I am enemy to both of them. But Stalin is his own enemy. That's due to his thoughts and intentions,“ he said.
On the issue of prohibition, Vaiko said PWF, if it comes to power, will shut Tasmac shops.
