Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad will meet DMK chief M Karuna nidhi on Monday morning to finalise their seat-sharing agreement for the May 16 Tamil Nadu assembly election.
DMK treasurer M K Stalin told reporters on Sunday that “Azad will meet Kalaignar [Karunanidhi]“ on Monday . “Most likely, we expect that we will arrive at a good decision,“ he said.
The first round of talks took place on March 25, when Congress leaders Azad, Mukul Wasnik and TNCC presi dent E V K S Elangovan met Karunanidhi at his Go palapuram residence. How ever, the talks were incon clusive.
In the 2011 assembly election, the Congress contested 63 seats in alliance tested 63 seats in alliance with the DMK and won five. According to ources, the Congress has asked for 63 seats, while the DMK is prepared to offer 41 seats.As the DMK remained firm on the number f seats the party was prepared to offer, Elangovan flew to Delhi last week to dis uss the issue with central leaders.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi s believed to have insisted that the party hould be allotted one assembly seat in each f the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies.
The DMK walked out of the Congress ed UPA in 2013 due to differences over Sri Lankan Tamils issue. The two parties revived the alliance in February this year.
