Puducherry: The Farmers Workers Union, affiliated to the Bharat Kisan Mazdoor Union, today requested the NDA government to ensure higher allocation of funds for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

General Secretary of the union's local unit K Murugan said in a release today that they also wanted the government to raise the number of days of work from present 100 to 200.

He said the Union had at its conference here yesterday adopted resolutions asking Puducherry government to take steps to provide basic amenities for farm workers, protect farm lands and also social security of the workers.

A Welfare Board for farm labourers should also be set up, he said.
