KANNUR: CPM veteran V S Achuthanandan on Thursday campaigned for his party rival, and politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan at an election meeting at Chakkarakkal town under Dharmadom constituency in Kannur.
The campaign by the party veteran, which is seen as the indication of the rivalry between the two melting, was received with excitement and applause by the party cadres and sympathisers.

Though Pinarayi Vijayan had on Wednesday endorsed an earlier resolution of the party that referred to V S Achuthanandan as a comrade with an anti-party mindset, which triggered a controversy forcing the leader to clarify it later, the CPM’s star campaigner began his address by seeking vote for Pinarayi Vijayan, and then listed the charges of corruption raised against the UDF ministers.
He said he felt like laughing on reading the UDF manifesto which said it would provide corruption-free governance.
Barring one female minister in the UDF Cabinet, almost every minister is facing corruption charges, said Achuthanandan, adding that if the LDF is voted to power, it would it would start a new department to address the issues of women.
Later he also released the development manifest of the LDF for Dharmadom constituency.
