Poll campaign enters phase-II as filing of nominations ends today

Malappuram received the most number of nominations: 128, while only 23 were filed in Pathanamthitta.

Thiruvananthapuram: Filing of nominations for the assembly elections will end on Friday.
The filed papers will be scrutinized on Saturday. The last date for withdrawing nominations is May 2. On Thursday, the election commission received 283 nominations, taking the number of candidates so far to 912. Malappuram received the most number of nominations: 128, while only 23 were filed in Pathanamthitta.
In the capital, 30 candidates, including former cricketer and BJP candidate S Sreesanth, filed their nomination papers.
The election commission, meanwhile, launched the mobile application, “e-voter”, on Thursday, which will enable voters to get details, including the voter’s list, polling booths and the details of candidates. Home minister Ramesh Chennithala and BJP candidate in Nemom, O Rajagopal, would be among those filing their nominations on Friday. In a separate development, the election commission squad confiscated unaccounted publicity materials of UDF Aruvikkara candidate K S Sabarinadhan and health minister V S Sivakumar.
While the squad confiscated 10,000 posters of Sabarinadhan from Vellanad, more than 300 flex boards of Sivakumar were confiscated from Nemom.
The state will go to polling booths in 140 constituencies on May 16 to elect representatives to the 14th assembly. The poll result will be announced on May 19.
