MALAPPURAM: At a time when Oommen Chandy is facing flak from within his party over the selection of candidates, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), one of the major allies of the UDF, has come in support of him.
A meeting of the IUML state leaders held at Panakkad here on Sunday decided to ask the Congress high command that Oommen Chandy should lead the election campaign of the UDF in state.
The party decided to make such a demand in the wake of reports that Oommen Chandy had offered to stay away from contesting this time following the dispute over the selection of candidates. “UDF can register a thumping victory under the leadership of Oommen Chandy , as the various welfare programmes under his government will turn into votes“, observed the meeting.
