THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If it was the denial of Lok Sabha seat by the LDF that made RSP to join hands with the UDF it was the denial of seat by the Kerala Congress (Mani) that made the birth of Kerala Congress (Democratic) headed by Francis George. Both these parties have now gone into oblivion.
RSP lost all of its five seats it contested. It include Eravipuram the party state secretary A A Azeez contested and outgoing labour minister Shibu Baby John who lost in Chavara.
However the interesting part to this is that Kovur Kunjumon who parted ways with the RSP just ahead of the elections and went back to LDF fold won from Kunnathur.

Francis George, K C Joseph, P C Joseph and Antony Raju were the four leaders who played rebellion within the Kerala Congress (Mani) for not giving tickets to them. They joined hands with the LDF ahead of the elections but all the four leaders got defeated.
Another biggest upset is the defeat of Janata Dal (United) candidates in the election. Under the UDF umbrella they had contested in seven seats they did not win even a single seat. They lost both their sitting MLAs M V Sreyams Kumar and K P Mohanan who was also the agriculture minister in the UDF government.
The CMP faction which is with the UDF also tasted the defeat with its lone candidate C P John losing in Kunnamkulam. However the other faction led by Aravindakshan won the lone seat it got in Chavara by defeating the labour minister Shibu Baby John.
In the LDF camp the Indian National League (INL) lost all its three candidates contested in this election. The Kerala Congress faction headed by Scaria Thomas also tasted defeat when its lone candidate lost in Kaduthuruthy.
