Former Indian pacer Sreesanth to contest from Thiruvananthapuram
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Putting an end to the uncertainly over the candidature of former Indian pacer S Sreesanth in the ensuing Assembly elections in Kerala, the BJP national leadership has announced the candidature of the cricketer in Thiruvananthapuram central assembly seat.
The candidature of Sreesanth came as a surprise to not just the voters, but to the BJP state leadership as well when the former Indian cricketer player told media last week that the BJP central leadership had approached him and he too was ready to contest the election in BJP ticket. The BJP state leaders continued to stress that at no point the candidature of Sreesanth was seriously discussed in the party and it would be impossible fort the party to vacant Thrippunithura assembly seat for Sreesanth that was already earmarked for spiritual orator Professor Thuravur Viswambharan.
Though the BJP state leadership could not defend the surprise beamer from Amitsha and team, which came in the form S Sreesanth, the state leaders somehow managed to change his battle field from his native constituency Thrippunithura to Thiruvananthapuram central. Again, Thiruvananthapuram central is one of the few assembly constituencies which the BJP think they could win this time. The percentage of vote’s former union minister O Rahagopal could garner from the constituency during the last parliament elections and the better performance of the party in the just concluded corporation election give credence to their claims. Sreesanth would be fighting health minister V S Sivakumar who is sitting MLA of the constituency and former MLA and minister V Surendran Pillai.
