Counting of votes: Jail food for poll officials in Thrissur

The food for the officials who will be deployed at the counting stations at the Government Engineering College here on Thursday, will be prepared by the inmates of Viyyur central jail. The prison officials said the district level election officers had asked them to provide food for 750 election officials and security personnel to who will be deployed at the deployed at the counting station.

Thrissur: The food for the officials who will be deployed at the counting stations at the Government Engineering College here on Thursday, will be prepared by the inmates of Viyyur central jail. The prison officials said the district level election officers had asked them to provide food for 750 election officials and security personnel to who will be deployed at the deployed at the counting station.

The food supplied will include morning snacks (vada and tea), breakfast (Idly, chutney and sambar) vegetarian lunch (chicken curry and fish curry for those who want non vegetarian dishes) and afternoon snack (pazhampori and tea), said the jail officials.
They said nearly 1,000 people buy food cooked by jail inmates every day from the counters set up in front of the prison.
