Thiruvananthapuram: Any attempt by KPCC president V M Sudheeran to omit seasoned politicians from the party candidate list will be strongly resisted by chief minister Oommen Chandy and home minister Ramesh Chennithala when they meet AICC leaders for the final selection of candidates or the assembly polls.
Both the “A'' and “I'' groups will bury their differences and unite against the KPCC chief to ensure that their senior leaders find a place in the final list.
All the three senior leaders will leave for New Delhi on Monday for holding discussions with the AICC leaders on the final selection candidates. Sudheeran is learnt to have made a `black list' of MLAs and leaders who have been either contesting for more than three times or have corruption charges against them so that their names will not be considered for the polls.
Benny Behnnan, Thampanoor Ravi, K C Joseph, Adoor Prakash, Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan, K Babu and P C Vishnunath, among others, are learnt to be in Sudheeran's list.
Chandy and Ramesh are likely to meet the AICC leaders jointly in the absence of Sudheeran to have their say on the candidate selection. At the KPCC election committee meeting, all Sudheeran said was that all the siting MLAs have made it to the list and declined to comment further.
Except for ten constituencies, more than two names have been selected or all the other constituencies in the probable list to be submitted before the AICC on Monday .
Sudheeran is likely to open up on his choice of candidates only before the screening committee of the AICC and hence, the leaders from the state have decided to meet the AICC leaders separately . Both the “A'' and “I'' groups are not ready to sacrifice their senior leaders from the list and hence both the group leaders Chandy and Ramesh will join hands together against Sudheeran.
The screening and election committee of the AICC will begin discussions from Monday and the the final list of candidates is expected to be released on March 31.
