ALAPPUZHA: BDJS candidate Subash Vasu in Kuttanad, where prime minister Narendra Modi campaigned for him, tasted failure. Kuttanad was the centre of attraction in this assembly polls because of the presence of the BDJS candidate Subash Vasu and SNDP had a strong influence in Kuttanad.

However, the voters of Kuttanad shattered the dreams of BDJS and BJP.

LDF candidate and sitting MLA Thomas Chandy (NCP) has retained his seat with majority of 4891 votes. He secured 50114 votes when UDF candidate Jacob Abraham(KC(M)) got 45223 votes. Jacob Abraham faced the threat of rebel candidateKC(M) Jose Koyipally this time. Subash Vasu of BDJS got 33044 votes. Subash Vasu never came in the first position since counting started.

In 2011 assembly polls, Thomas Chandy got majority of 7971 votes. This time his majority has come down to 4891 votes( 3080 votes difference).
