Jorhat: Minutes after filing his nomination from Titabor in his home district of Jorhat on Friday, three-time chief minister Tarun Gogoi thanked the people of his constituency for giving him a chance to serve the people of Assam and urged them to support him in the upcoming election.
"I've prepared myself to serve the people of the entire state by representing Titabor once more.
I appeal to you to give me your best wishes. I feel proud to get your love and affection and I hope I will get it forever," Gogoi told his supporters.
Titabor election officer Damodar Barman said, "Chief minister Tarun Gogoi filed four sets of nomination papers for Titabor constituency at around 1.30 pm on Friday."
Earlier in the day, the chief minister, accompanied by wife Dolly, addressed Congress workers at the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex at around 11.30 am. Over 7,000 supporters attended the meeting and took out a colourful procession, covering around six kilometres on foot, to accompany Gogoi as he made his way to the office of the sub-divisional officer.
Addressing the gathering, Gogoi expressed confidence about winning the polls for a fourth consecutive term. "I am sure we will win and form government again. The people of Assam are happy with our work and they will vote for us again," he said.
Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposed visit to Assam on March 25, Gogoi said, "The BJP, which has always hired leaders from outside the state before every election, has no faith in its state leaders."
Dismissing the anti-incumbency factor, he added, "There is no anti-incumbency wave here. I've been working for the poor and the people of Assam are my real strength. My priority is to work for the development of the backward classes."
