Who was Akanksha Chaturvedi? NEET aspirant's note found after suicide, says she feared re-exam
An NEET aspirant from Madhya Pradesh, who allegedly died by suicide in Maharashtra's Nagpur last month, left behind a handwritten note expressing fear about appearing for the NEET re-examination and apologising to her parents.
Akanksha Chaturvedi had appeared for the NEET-UG examination held on May 3. However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the examination on May 12 following allegations of a paper leak and announced a fresh test for June 21.
Police said Akanksha was found hanging in her room at the family's residence in Nagpur on May 20, nearly a week after the cancellation announcement. No suicide note was found at the time.
Several days later, while going through her books and study materials, family members found a handwritten note and submitted it to the Ambazari police on June 1.
In the note, she wrote: "Mummy, Papa...you had trust in me that I would study and become a doctor. But I do not have the courage to appear for a retest. In the first test, I was about to score good marks. But there is no guarantee that I will score good marks again. Sorry, Mummy, Papa, I have ruined everything for both of you."
