Who is Rao Danish Ali, ABK School teacher gunned down at AMU campus during a walk?

Rao Danish Ali, a 45-year-old computer teacher, was shot dead during a late evening walk inside the Aligarh Muslim University campus. He was attacked near the Maulana Azad Library area while walking with friends, and the shooters escaped immediately after firing.

The moment of the attack near the library

According to Imran, who was walking alongside Ali, one assailant issued a threat moments before the shooting. He said the attacker told him, “You don’t know me yet, now you will,” Imran told police officers during questioning, quoted by local officials. Ali was shot at close range near the ear and collapsed on the spot.

The incident occurred near the canteen behind the Maulana Azad Library at around 8.50 pm. The attackers arrived on a two-wheeler and fled straight after the gunfire. Police barricaded the area and examined the crime scene soon after.

Police response and investigation

Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar Jadaun said the victim was rushed to hospital but could not be saved. “Two unidentified persons shot Danish, and he was declared dead at the hospital,” Jadaun told journalists in conversation with local media. He added that one bullet struck above the ear and that investigators were exploring all possible angles.

Jadaun also said the family believed the attackers may have been known to the victim. He assured that the case would be solved and the accused arrested. The body was taken to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, where doctors confirmed death on arrival.

Who Rao Danish Ali was

Rao Danish Ali had been working as a computer teacher at the university-run ABK High School since 2015. He completed his education at AMU and later joined the institution as a teacher. He had served as captain of the university’s Horse Riding Club and regularly visited the library canteen area.

Ali was originally from the Dibai area and was the son of an AMU employee. His father, Professor Hilal, and his mother are both retired AMU staff members. His father-in-law, Fiza Ullah Chaudhary, was a former MLA from the Kanth constituency in Moradabad.

A relative, Mohammad Waseem Ali, said Danish collapsed immediately after being shot and was rushed to hospital, a statement he shared with reporters at the medical college.
