Telangana schools to remain closed tomorrow across all districts amid heavy rainfall alert
The Telangana government has declared a holiday for all primary and secondary schools on Monday, September 2, in response to ongoing heavy rainfall and forecasts of more to come. This decision applies to all schools, regardless of management, including public, aided, and private ones. Parents and guardians have been urged to stay informed about weather conditions in order to keep their children safe during this time.
Initially, the holiday announcement was limited to the Hyderabad region, but it was subsequently extended to cover the entire state. The news was confirmed through the official account of the Collector & District Magistrate of Hyderabad District, Telangana, on X (formerly Twitter). The post stated, "Due to the forecast of heavy rains in Hyderabad District, all Primary and Secondary Schools, under all managements (Government, Aided, and Private), are hereby declared a holiday on Monday, 02-09-2024, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the children."
Additionally, Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced that all educational institutions, both government and private, will remain closed across Telangana on September 2, 2024, due to heavy rains. The minister also stated that all government department holidays have been canceled. The recent heavy rains have caused significant flooding and disruption across Telangana and the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a well-marked low-pressure system has intensified into a depression, resulting in continuous rainfall across Telangana. This depression crossed the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast, bringing substantial rainfall to the region.
In light of the severe weather conditions, the Telangana state government has established a special control room in the Secretariat to monitor the situation. The control room, managed by the Disaster Management Department, is located on the Ground Floor, Room No. 34 of the Secretariat. For assistance, the control room can be reached at 040 - 2345 4088.
