Schools closed in these states due to cold wave and fog: Check full list of holidays here
Several states have announced school closures due to cold wave and fog conditions, affecting students across multiple classes. The decisions have been taken to safeguard children’s health as temperatures continue to fall in many regions.
In Rajasthan, holidays were announced in around 20 districts due to fog and cold wave conditions, TNN reports. Government and private schools were scheduled to reopen on Tuesday after winter vacations, but closures were extended in several areas.
In Jaipur, holidays were declared for students up to Class 5 till January 10, 2026, while students of Classes 6 to 8 will remain on holiday till January 8, 2026. The Jaipur district administration said the holidays will apply only to students, while all teaching and non-teaching staff must report to schools. Examinations will be conducted as scheduled, as stated in an official release cited by TNN.
Schools in Tripura will remain closed from January 6 to January 10, 2026, due to extreme cold weather conditions, according to ANI.
As per a letter issued by the Tripura School Education Department, all government, government-aided, and privately managed schools will remain closed during this period. District Education Officers have been instructed to convey the decision to all schools under their jurisdiction, ANI reports.
In Jharkhand, the state government announced further closure of all schools till January 8, 2026, due to intensifying cold conditions, as reported by TNN. The order applies to students from pre-nursery to Class 12 across all categories of schools.
The School Education and Literacy Department said the decision was taken considering the impact of cold weather on children’s health. Teachers and non-teaching staff have been directed to attend schools as usual. The order also stated that if any pre-board examinations are scheduled during this period, the competent authority may take an appropriate decision, according to TNN.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for Lohardaga, Gumla, Latehar, Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribag, and Koderma districts, while flight operations from Ranchi were also affected due to low visibility.
