Indian Railways advances large-scale recruitment process for over 1.43 lakh non-gazetted posts across multiple categories
The Ministry of Railways has confirmed that the process of recruitment is currently underway for 1,43,086 non-gazetted posts in Indian Railways, as per the Annual Recruitment Calendars for 2024 and 2025.The update provides information on the magnitude and progress of examinations, tests, and panel finalization for various categories of posts, including safety and technical categories. The information was presented to the Lok Sabha in a written statement by the Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.Recruitment notifications and vacanciesDuring January to December 2024, a total of ten Centralized Employment Notifications were released, covering 92,116 vacancies. This included 6,927 vacancies in Southern Railway and 1,395 vacancies in the Integral Coach Factory.The notifications included recruitment for Assistant Loco Pilots, Technicians, Sub-Inspectors, and Constables in the Railway Protection Force, Junior Engineers, Depot Material Superintendents, Chemical and Metallurgical Assistants, Paramedical Categories, Non-Technical Popular Categories at graduate and undergraduate levels, Ministerial and Isolated Categories, and Level-1 posts including Assistants, Track Maintainers, and Pointsman.
Completion of first stage and single stage CBTsThe first stage or single stage Computer Based Tests have been completed for 59,678 posts. The tests were held in various cities and in 15 languages, with the number of candidates running into several crore.First stage or single stage CBT details

Level-1 recruitment and physical efficiency testsComputer Based Tests for 32,438 vacancies for Level-1 categories began on November 27, 2025, and were conducted in 140 cities in 15 languages. The Physical Efficiency Test for 4,208 Constable vacancies in the Railway Protection Force was conducted on December 6, 2025.Panel finalization and recruitment calendar for 2025Finalization of panels for more than 31,000 candidates has been completed for different recruitment notifications, such as Technicians, Junior Engineers, Paramedical Categories, Sub-Inspectors in Railway Protection Force, and Assistant Loco Pilots. The majority of these recruitment notifications are for safety categories.In a separate development, nine Centralized Employment Notifications have been released for 50,970 vacancies under the Annual Recruitment Calendar for 2025. This includes 3,412 vacancies for Southern Railway and 438 vacancies for the Integral Coach Factory.
