JEE Main 2024 Physics preparation: 5 key topics every aspirant must cover
JEE Main 2024: The Joint Entrance Examination 2024 session 1, commences on January 24, 2024. The registration round has ended, and currently, the release of admit cards is awaited.
According to the schedule released by the conducting body- National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam will be held between January 24 to February 1, 2024, for JEE Main session 1.
JEE Main session 2 will commence in the month of April, after conclusion of session 1 in February. The various counselling rounds are expected to take place in June 2024.
Across the two sessions of the JEE Main exam, in a year, close to 12 lakh students appear for the exam each year. Engineering has always been regarded as a popular career path in India. Scoring well in this competitive exam ensures admission to a good engineering institute in the country.

The JEE Main syllabus covers three core subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each subject has its own set of topics that are tested in the exam. Within the syllabus, Physics is generally considered as the most challenging subject by aspirants.
However, Physics carries a significant portion of the total JEE Main syllabus weightage, and scoring well in this section ensures a higher score overall. Here is a list of Physics topics from the JEE Main syllabus that candidates must cover:
Thermodynamics
Thermodynamics is a lengthy topic, and previous exam patterns indicate that 1-2 questions are asked. However, a thorough understanding of this subject includes not only physics but also chemistry. Despite the small number of questions, they can be conceptual as well as numerical. Waves and oscillations are frequently overlooked by students, but they are important for exams. These topics include Simple Harmonic Motion and the Doppler effect, among others.
Optics
Optics is a key topic in JEE mains Physics. While not overly extensive, it requires a reasonable grasp of formulas and concepts. The questions can be challenging, covering topics such as reflection and refraction. Current Electricity features both numerical and theory-based questions, which are relatively easy and can be prepared using the NCERT book. This section typically includes questions on ohm’s law, colour codes, and straightforward current or voltage problems.
Electrostatics
Electrostatics is a substantial but scoring topic. Though it takes time to comprehend every concept, the questions are not overly difficult and can be solved using various laws and formulas. Typically, 3-4 questions are asked from this section, making it one of the important chapters for JEE mains Physics.
Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Current
These topics, part of the class 12th syllabus, are relatively easier but somewhat lengthy, involving numerous formulas and laws. However, the questions are generally direct and can be easily solved by applying the formulas. Careful preparation is needed for topics like RMS values, waveform, and Ampere's circuital law.
Semiconductor, Communication Systems & Unit Dimensions
These are among the easiest topics in the JEE Main Physics syllabus. They can be covered in one or two days, and questions are typically theory-based. NCERT books can be relied upon for these topics. Usually, around three questions are asked from this combined category.
