IIMC PhD admissions 2025-26: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), a Deemed to be University under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, has opened online applications for admission to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme for the academic session 2025-26.
The PhD programme is offered in Full-Time and Part-Time modes and focuses on advanced research in journalism, mass communication, digital media, advertising, public relations, strategic communication, political communication, film studies, development communication, and related areas.
Number of seats being offered
Reservation will be provided as per Central Government norms for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer), Economically Weaker Sections, and Persons with Disabilities.
Supernumerary seats are available for international scholars as per institute rules

Eligibility criteria
For Full-Time PhD, candidates must have:
- A Master’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication or allied fields with at least 55 percent marks.
- A four-year Bachelor’s degree with research and minimum 75 percent marks.
- Must have qualified University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) in Mass Communication and Journalism.
For Part-Time PhD, candidates must:
- Meet the same academic qualification as Full-Time candidates.
- Be currently employed.
- Have at least three years of work experience in media, communication or allied fields.
- Submit a No Objection Certificate from their employer.

Selection process
Full-Time PhD
- No entrance exam
- Candidates with valid UGC NET qualification will be directly called for interview
- Final merit will be based on:
- UGC NET percentile – 70 percent
- Interview performance – 30 percent
Part-Time PhD
- Candidates must appear for an offline entrance examination at IIMC, Delhi
- Candidates who have cleared UGC NET are exempted from the entrance exam
- Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview
- Final merit will be based on:
- Entrance exam or UGC NET score – 70 percent
- Interview performance – 30 percent
