FTII exam row: Nationwide re-test announced for all candidates after Delhi centre disruption
The Film and Television Institute of India has decided to re-conduct its entrance examination for all candidates after disruptions were reported at a Delhi centre during the April 26 test.
In an official statement, the institute said the decision was taken after reviewing a report by a committee formed to examine the issue. Based on its findings, FTII will now hold the written examination again for all papers across the country.
“The decision for a full re-examination at the national level is taken to ensure a uniform, fair, and credible assessment process and to provide a level playing field to all candidates, given concerns about the overall perception of fairness and integrity of the examination process due to some operational deficiencies and a major disruption at the Delhi centre which led to the cancellation of the exam at that centre,” the institute said.
The issue began on April 26 at a Delhi centre, where the examination had to be cancelled in a specific building after a disruption. A few students reportedly entered the strong room, manhandled staff, and created a law-and-order situation following a delay in paper distribution.
Following the incident, an emergency meeting was held with the examination agency and centre officials. The exam for that building was cancelled. Police and an FTII observer were present at the site.
Later, during the second shift, the FTII observer noted concerns raised by some candidates. As a result, the second-shift exam in the same building was also cancelled.
FTII has said that candidates do not need to register again for the re-examination. Their existing application details will be used. The institute will announce the revised schedule and issue fresh admit cards through its official website at least one month in advance.
“The institute regrets the inconvenience caused to candidates and assures that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure a smooth, transparent, and fair conduct of the re-examination,” it added.
