Delhi schools winter break 2025-26: Check complete list of holidays, Christmas closures, pre-board exams, and January vacation dates

Delhi schools are set to observe a series of important academic and holiday schedules during the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026. The academic calendar includes Christmas closures, pre-board examinations for senior classes, and the official winter break in January. Schools in the Delhi-NCR region, including government, government-aided, and recognised private institutions, are following directives from the Directorate of Education (DoE) to ensure the completion of mandatory working days.

The upcoming weeks are a crucial period for students, particularly those in Classes 10 and 12, who will be appearing for pre-board examinations. Alongside academic schedules, the administration has clarified the observance of Gazetted and restricted holidays to maintain compliance with the minimum 220 working days requirement for upper primary classes and 200 working days for primary classes.





Christmas closures and restricted holidays

Schools will observe Christmas Eve as a restricted holiday, with most institutions remaining open but some possibly closing early. Christmas Day, however, is a full Gazetted holiday, and schools will remain closed across Delhi. Students and parents are advised to check individual school circulars for specific arrangements on December 24.

Pre-board examinations and academic schedules

pre-board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 are scheduled during the second half of December. This period is crucial for board preparation, and schools are expected to maintain regular working hours. Junior classes up to Class 5 may continue with hybrid learning due to Air Quality Index (AQI) concerns, which may affect outdoor activities.

January winter break

The official winter vacation for all schools is scheduled in January, providing a mid-year break for students. Schools are required to ensure the completion of mandatory working days even after accounting for holidays, special leaves, and vacation periods.

Schools are directed to maintain records of all holidays, including restricted and SPECIAL holidays, to ensure compliance with the RTE Act-2009 requirements. Government and recognised private schools are also required to submit undertakings confirming that at least 220 working days will be observed during the academic year.
