Amid Junior Doctors' Strike, West Bengal Appoints New Directors for Medical Education and Health Services
KOLKATA: The West Bengal government on Tuesday removed Dr Kaustav Nayak and Dr Debasish Halder from the position of Director of Medical Education (DME) and the Director of Health Services (DHS) respectively, a health department order said. The order was issued following the meeting between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and agitating junior doctors on Monday night when Banerjee had promised to remove Nayak and Halder from their positions.
Dr Swapan Soren was appointed the new in-charge director of health services and Dr Suparna Dutta officer on special duty of medical education, it added.
Nayak was appointed the Director of the Institute of Health and Family Welfare while Halder was posted as the officer on special duty of Public health at Swasthya Bhawan.
Junior doctors, who are on 'cease work' protesting the rape-murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for the last 39 days, have been demanding the removal of the Director of Health Services, Director of Medical Education and the Health secretary for their alleged involvement in corruption in the state health sector.Ready to navigate global policies? Stop false propaganda of collapsing medical system or high fatality. Many little heads are commenting on Junior Doctors without knowing the details.Who are called "Junior Doctors"? - Interns and traineesWhat is their percentage among doctors? - Less than 0.5%. For Math phobic, it means in every 200 doctors, 1 is an Intern or "Junior Doctors"What is the duty of "Junior Doctors"? - Interns (trainees) are there to learn rather than attending patients individually. They usually and mostly sit with senior doctors to observe and learn.Does Junior Doctors attend emergency patients? - Usually and mostly NO. They sit with senior doctors. Are they paid any SALARY? - No, they just receive a stipend similar to post graduate GATE qualified students. What is the normal, usual death rate in any hospital? - Though depends on seasons and other factors but definitely there is no unusually high rate now.Blaming "Junior Doctors" for collapsing medical service is a 'Propaganda'! An insult to all senior doctors who are working extra hard, extra hours to manage the shortfall of "Junior Doctors".Despite that, if we still blame crumpling medical service then the issue is somewhere else- Not enough doctors or staff - too many vacancies, too many adhoc/temp staff- Hospital is not just a building - Equipment, Medicines and Consumables, Trained Staff including doctors are more important than a shinny building- Proper, safe working environment, systems and processes - Not dadagiri of unpad gawar local leaders, union, gangsAnd so manyBottomline is blaming "Junior Doctors" is a complete lie and a false propaganda.Read allPost comment
