Seeleru (Visakhapatnam): Two Maoists including a woman were sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday for their involvement in the kidnap of Malkangiri collector Vineel Krishna. However, another senior Maoist leader Chedda Bhushanam alias Ghasi was acquitted in the same case.
The Malkangiri collector was kidnapped at Janatabai in Malkangiri district of Odisha by the Maoists on February 14, 2011, when the collector had gone there to inspect road laying works.
After 10 days in captivity, the collector was released through mediators, who had put forth many demands to the Odisha government.
According to sources, cases were framed against Chedda Bhushanam of Visakha Agency, Sunitha alias Divya of Koyyuru mandal and Tapan Saha of Janbai. The additional district and session judge court sentenced Divya and Tapan for life.
