VISAKHAPATNAM: A primary health center (PHC) in Tajangi, a tribal hamlet area close to the tourist spot Lammasingi got a national level recognition for its medical services as the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare NHM issued a quality certificate under National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS). Tajangi PHC with 75.83% of marks got the quality certificate. AP got three quality certificates for best services in PHCs including Tajangi and two PHCs in Guntur district.

The quality certificate was issued on Tuesday by the Additional Secretary and Mission Director of NHM S Changson. The certificate was sent to the Tajagni doctors by the State Medical Health and Family Welfare principle secretary MT Krishna Babu.

A special survey was conducted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the public health centers, primary health centers, and hospitals in different states about the services being provided by them and also the available services. The experts’ committees of central government conducted inspections and surveys of PHCs in urban, rural, and tribal areas in the state.

The PHC doctor K Santosh Kumar told TOI that the experts' team examined around seven services packages, including clinical services, patient rights (dignified treatment for the patient), inputs from the patients, support services means without burden on the patients providing ambulances and others, a special facility for breastfeeding, services regarding pharmacy and laboratory, and others. On average, 40 deliveries are performed by the doctors in the hospital every month.

“We have trauma treatment and infection control, besides other services of treatment path, household services, public health improvement systems, and quality management. All these are considered by the expert team during the inspection,” Doctor Santosh Kumar said.

He said that the experts' committee visited the Tajangi PHC on September 29 and September 30 and submitted a report to the higher officials about the quality of services provided to the patients. Now, the hospital would get central government funds for the next three years.
