Visakhapatnam residents await World Photography Day

VISAKHAPATNAM: Residents of the Steel City are eagerly looking forward to witness up close pictures taken by renowned photographers from 32 countries at the upcoming World Photography Day, which will be held in the city on August 18.
Denizens can also soak in the beauty of an ‘unseen Vizag’ in another photography exhibition. Renowned photographers would also address budding photographers in an interactive session.
The Visakha Camera Club is hosting a special international photography exhibition for the first time and is planning to mark the occasion in a grand way on different days of this month.
Founder-chairman of Visakha Camera Club Bijay Kumar Agarwal said, “A special attraction this year would be the display of 930 photographs by renowned photographers across the globe. Digital prints of these award-winning photographs would be displayed. The exhibition, which is organised by Alokrekhay Club from Kolkata, would be held on August 26 and 27 at the heritage building of Hawa Mahal, and will be divided into categories such as wildlife, travel, portraits, black and white and colour photography. The display of this global visual art would inspire our photographers, who may not be able to travel across the world but would get to see all kinds of photographs under one roof.”
“Apart from this, another exhibition on the theme ‘Unseen Places of Vizag’ would be showcased. Photographs from various lesser-known areas of the district including scenic tribal areas and Buddhist heritage sites would be on display on the occasion. These photographs have been clicked by professionals as well as amateur photographers from the camera club, which has 22 members from different walks of life,” said Dr Suresh Gorentla, a member of the club and a dentist by profession.
Another highlight of the programme would be an address by Captain Suresh Sharma from Chandigarh. This renowned photographer would come down to Vizag and give a talk on the styles of photography on August 18.
“The special thing about him is that he has a caravan, in which he takes photographers for camping and expeditions to exotic locales like Ladakh and Thar Desert to promote the art of photography. He is also a specialist in snake photography and promotes the cause of snake conservation and their importance to the environment,” said Agarwal.
