VISAKHAPATNAM: Sankalp, the Navy School for special children run by the Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) of the Eastern region, celebrated its silver jubilee anniversary at the Samudrika Naval Auditorium here on Thursday.
The school, which was set up on January 26, 1990, with three students, currently has 30 differently-abled students, who showcased their talent through various cultural performances.
To commemorate the occasion, ENC chief vice-admiral
Satish Soni cut an anniversary cake along with the special children and gave away prizes. A short film 'A special child speaks', which captured the spirit of Sankalp, was also screened on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the ENC chief said he was enthralled by the outstanding performance of the students and said he had been sending greeting cards made by Sankalp children to his friends. He thanked his predecessors for building the school and expressed hope that the present generation would provide new avenues to look after them.
The school staff, including Rajasree Reddy, Nagamaniamma, Kantamma, Poliamma, Kurlamma, Nirmala and Dayal, were also felicitated by NWWA president Payal Soni.
Speaking to media persons, the NWWA president said her organisation was striving hard to empower women.
