VISAKHAPATNAM: MGM SevenHills Hospital has launched a state-of-the-art Liver Transplant Institute, bringing world-class liver care to the region under the leadership of Dr Thiagarajan Srinivasan, Senior Consultant and Director, Institute of Liver Diseases, Transplant & HPB Surgery.
Dr Thiagarajan is an internationally acclaimed liver transplant and HPB (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary) surgeon with 15 years of experience. A graduate of Thanjavur Medical College and PGI Chandigarh, he has performed over 1,700 liver transplants and has a cumulative experience of more than 3,500 transplants, including living donor, deceased donor, and paediatric procedures. He has also carried out more than 1,000 advanced HPB surgeries, both open and laparoscopic.
The new institute focuses on using advanced technology and medical protocols to treat a wide range of liver, pancreatic, and biliary conditions. With the launch of this facility, patients in Visakhapatnam and across Andhra Pradesh no longer need to travel to Chennai, Hyderabad, or Bangalore for advanced liver treatments. MGM SevenHills now provides complete liver care and transplantation services locally, meeting global standards.
Dr Thiagarajan stressed the importance of increasing awareness about liver transplantation and related surgeries, stating that thousands of lives could be saved each year from conditions such as liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, acute liver failure, colorectal liver metastasis, gallbladder cancer, and bile duct cancer. He added that more people in Andhra Pradesh can now access financial support under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, which provides up to Rs 10 lakh per transplant.
Dr Viswanath R., Head of Interventional Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases at the hospital, said the new institute, equipped with world-class infrastructure and expertise, would enhance diagnosis and treatment of gastroenterology and liver disorders, offering comprehensive care for all digestive system-related diseases.
