VISAKHAPATNAM: There is an urgent need for gender equality in India, especially at a time when crimes against women were going up the world over, said Andhra University registrar Prof V Uma Maheswara Rao at a meet on ‘Women’s Rights, Globalisation: Cross Cultural Practices’ at the Centre for Women’s Studies on Saturday.
The registrar further said one needs to consider the disparities in gender relations from a mathematical perspective and apply the law of equity to ensure parity.
“Provision of equal rights alone does not ensure or guarantee rights. The thrust should be on provision of equity which will ensure that the needs of women will be understand better, thereby ensuring them the rights.”
