Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari of YSRCP elected mayor of Visakhapatnam

Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari of YSRC has been officially elected as the new mayor of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), Vizag city on Thursday whereas Jiyyani Sridhar has been elected as the deputy mayor of GVMC.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari of YSRC has been officially elected as the new mayor of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), Vizag city on Thursday whereas Jiyyani Sridhar has been elected as the deputy mayor of GVMC.
It is the second time that a woman is elected as a mayor of GVMC. In the past, Rajana Ramani had served as the mayor of Vizag city.
With the mayor’s post reserved for backward classes (General), the YSRC fielded Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari as the woman candidate.

The YSR Congress Party bagged 58 out of 98 seats while TDP secured 30 seats.
The left parties requested the Vizag mayor to pass the first resolution against the proposed privatization of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
