on Saturday arrested seven people including the wife of a film director in connection with the tonsure of a dalit youth.

The police acted swiftly after a message went viral on social media alleging that a Dalit youth was tonsured by a group of people that included two women.

The 28-year-old man was abused and his head shaved after he was accused of stealing a mobile phone from the house of the film director, Nutan Naidu. The police have identified the arrested as Narsimgi Priya Madhuri alias Mounika (28), wife of director Nutan Naidu, housekeeping supervisors Tella Indira Rani (26), and Ch Varahalu (35), a barbar, I Ravi Kumar (26), housekeeping assistants Seelam Bala Gangadhar (29), Mugada Jhansi (19) and Kalingpatnam Sowjanya (19). City police said P Srikanth (28), a resident of Giriprasad Nagar in Sujatha Nagar area in the city, lodged a complaint at Pendurthi police station late on Friday night that he was severely beaten up and his head shaved by the staff of his ex employer.

and SC, ST cell ACP Trinath seized the CCTV footage from the house of the cine director in Sujatha Nagar. They also recovered hair, a stick and an iron rod. All the seven accused were booked under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 342 (wrongful confinement), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and also 3 (1)(e) and 3Ḥ(2)(v) of SC, ST Prevention of Attrocities Act, 2015. They were sent to judicial remand.
