VISAKHAPATNAM: The Civil Liberties Committee (CLC) has demanded that a murder case be registered against Malkangiri superintendent of police Akhileswar Singh and 45 police personnel in connection with the fierce encounter in Silakuta forest in Odisha on September 14. Thirteen Maoists were killed in the encounter, CLC added.
In a release, CLC general secretary Ch Chandra Shekar said they had visited the incident spot on September 21 and 22 to ascertain the facts behind the incident.
After interacting with locals as well as cops, the CLC came to know that nearly 45 personnel led by the Malkangiri SP shot the Maoists when they were sleepingin their tents. "As the police intentionally killed the Maoists, the authorities should register a murder case against the 46 security personnel, including the Malkangiri SP," Shekar demanded. He also demanded that the government withdraw operation Green Hunt and call back the paramilitary forces combing the forest areas.
