VISAKHAPATNAM: Jana Sena corporator P

Murthy Yadav

protested in a beggar’s getup in front of the

GVMC

office in Visakhapatnam on Friday. The begging protest was held against the civic body for allegedly buying the recent

Simhachalam Chandanotsavam

tickets with 2.8 lakh public money for the corporators.

“How could the corporators splurge money that was collected in taxes from the public on their personal temple visits? The GVMC should release a white paper on the amount being spent ever since the new council assumed the office a year ago,” said Murthy Yadav.

GVMC mayor G

Hari Venkata Kumari

refuted the allegations and clarified that she had borne the expenditure. “When GVMC approached temple authorities for free VVIP passes, it was learnt that money needed to be paid for even these passes as per the collector’s directions. Due to time shortage, tickets were bought with the GVMC funds to provide darshan for GVMC corporators. Consequently, I paid this 2.8 lakh spent on the tickets back to the GVMC,” said Hari Venkata Kumari.
