Mumbai: 60-year-old woman held for cheating senior citizens, stealing jewellery

A 60-year-old woman, Geeta Patel, was arrested in Mumbai for allegedly cheating senior citizens by gaining their sympathy with false stories and then stealing their gold jewelry. Posing as a victim of domestic abuse, she allegedly stole a gold chain worth Rs 1.5 lakh from an 80-year-old man in Borivali.

MUMBAI: A 60-year-old woman was arrested by MHB Colony police for cheating senior citizens by making an emotional appeal to them for help and later stealing their gold jewellery. Geeta Patel, the accused, was booked in 10 FIRs so far by different police stations in Mumbai.
Patel lives in Bhayander. In the latest case, she allegedly duped an 80-year-old man from Borivali of his gold chain. The incident occurred on November 13 around 5.15 pm at Eksar. Patel approached the complainant and claimed that she was being harassed by her husband, who is an alcoholic. The complainant felt sympathy for her.
After chatting with him for a while, she took him to the second floor of a building, claiming to show him her poor financial condition. Instead, she stole his gold chain worth Rs 1.5 lakh after threatening to frame him in a criminal case.
After she fled, the complainant approached the MHB Colony police station. A team comprising Sub Inspectors Nilesh Patil and Bharat Paul tracked down Patel and arrested her.
