TIRUPATI: Three persons were killed on the spot and several others were injured when a private bus overturned on Madanapalle-Punganur Road near Bandakindapalle of Madanapalle mandal in Chittoor district of
Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as 65-year-old Gangulappa of Erraballi village, 19-year-old Somu Naidu of Bandakindapalle and 29-year-old Mallikarjuna of Adavipalle village.
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when the bus was proceeding towards Adavipalle village from Madanapalle when it hit a rock boulder and veered off the road, before turning turtle. As many as 25-30 passengers were on board the bus, hailing from different places in Madanapalle mandal.
In the mishap, three passengers died on the spot after they suffered severe head injuries, while apart from two or three passengers, who suffered grievous injuries, the others were discharged after the first-aid at the district hospital in the town.
Meanwhile, on learning about the incident, the paramedical staff and Madanapalle rural police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the district hospital. The rural police, who registered a case in this regard, took the bus driver into custody. Further investigation is on.
