Visakhapatnam: Opener CR Gnaneshwar (81) missed a century but added 106 for the second wicket with captain GH Vihari (76 batting) as Andhra made a good start against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B league match at the Arun Jaitley stadium, Delhi on Tuesday.
Put in on a chilly morning, when the match commenced at 11 am due to fog, Andhra started well but lost the other opener Abhishek Reddy (22) at the stroke of lunch with 47 runs on the board. He was claimed by debutant Divij Mehra.
Gnaneshwar’s century stand with his captain ended when Hrithik Shokeen took his wicket and Delhi’s other debutant Yogesh Sharma struck soon after, claiming in-form Andhra batter Ricky Bhui.
Meanwhile, Vihari came up with his best knock of the season and was in the company of KS Bharat (seven batting) as the day’s proceedings ended early due to bad light.
Vihari and Gnaneshwar adapted well to the pitch on which patience was required and run making was not easy. Andhra brought in Lalith Mohan in place of Tapaswi for this match.
