Sudheer Varma Kalidindi, Tollywood actor, dies by suicide at 34

VISAKHAPATNAM: Young Tollywood actor Sudheer Varma Kalidindi, who attempted suicide on January 10 by consuming poison, died while availing treatment in a private hospital in Visakhapatnam in the wee hours of Monday. Police said the 34-year-old actor, who was reportedly under depression, consumed the pesticide (weed killer) in Warangal and underwent treatment at two hospitals in Hyderabad. After recovering to some extent, he was shifted to his home city of Vizag and admitted to a private hospital on January 21 where he breathed his last on Monday. The hospital mentioned cardio pulmonary arrest and consumption of paraquat poison in the death report.In addition to Telugu films ‘Second Hand’ and ‘Kundanapu Bomma’, Sudheer also played key roles in web series like ‘Shootout at Alleru’. Sudhakar Komakula, who co-starred with Sudheer in ‘Kundanapu Bomma’, announced Sudheer’s death on social media. “Such a lovely and warm guy! It was great knowing you and working with you brother! Can’t digest the fact that you are no more! Om Shanti!” Sudhakar wrote about the actor. Several other actors also voiced their shock and condolences.The funeral was conducted at Gnanapuram burial ground in the city. DCP (zone-II) K Ananda Reddy said the management of the hospital informed the police about the admission of Sudheer, but reportedly didn’t inform about his death. The family members of the actor took the body to the burial ground and cremated it. “We came to know that the actor was under depression for some time. After consuming pesticide, he was treated in Hyderabad and later shifted to Vizag against medical advice. An inquiry is underway into the incident. We are talking to his family members, and will decide whether to book a case or not as the body was created without following the post-mortem process,” Reddy said. The actor’s friends were also left shocked after coming to know about his death. “He was a bit sensitive but normally a jovial fellow. We suspect that personal reasons coupled with financial issues could be the reasons behind his taking the extreme step. Sudheer’s father Gopal Krishna was a civil contractor and died a few years ago,” said one of his friends. Sudheer made his Tollywood debut in 2013 and rose to prominence through ‘Kundanapu Bomma’ movie. However, he didn’t get many opportunities in the film industry.
