Visakhapatnam: Andhra University and the Visakhapatnam district administration on Friday reviewed the arrangements being made for the closing ceremony of the centenary celebrations of Andhra University, scheduled for April 27. Vice-president CP Radhakrishnan and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar will attend as chief guests. The closing ceremony, which will be held at the AU engineering college grounds, is expected to draw nearly 25,000 people. State education secretary Kona Sasidhar and commissioner of collegiate education Bharat Gupta, who participated virtually, offered several suggestions.
District collector M Abhishikt Kishore said that comprehensive arrangements should be made to ensure the successful conduct of the closing ceremony. Vice-chancellor Prof GP Rajasekhar outlined the programmes and preliminary plans proposed by the university
Kishore said that two special committees have been constituted to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. The advisory committee will include university alumni and local public representatives, while the working committee will coordinate between the district administration and the university faculty.
The collector directed officials to ensure foolproof arrangements for the arrival, accommodation, and security of all VVIPs. He instructed that students, parents, and the general public be seated in their designated areas by 2 pm. Cultural programmes will be organised on a side stage for students before the arrival of VVIPs.
